November 27 Gingerbread House! So yesterday I made my very first gingerbread house! Pictures are on the side. My sisters ate a few of the gumdrops from the very top of the roof.
Also, I started a new blog at http://zuljenah.blogspot.com
So I will be updating that blog probably more often than this one. The only downside to that one is that I can't have photo albums like I have on this one. So I will be using both!
Also, pictures of the zoo are up! But I forgot to transfer the pictures of the girrafe for some reason November 24 Washington DC !!Time for an update! So from November 19-22 I was in Washington D.C. for the annual Middle East Studies Association conference! It was fun! I met with some professors from the graduate schools I am applying to, went well overall.
Met up with some friends from the Iran tour I went on in July 2004 (Hadi and Hussein! Hellooo
Got a quick tour of Georgetown, which was cool. For some reason, whenever I would think of applying to Georgetown University for Arab studies, I always thought the university was in Georgetown, NY!! A very gloomy and depressing place. But now that I realise the university is actually in Washington DC and not NY, I might just consider it! Who knows. We'll see. But I am interested in Persian studies moreso than Arab studies.
Monday morning I went to the Smithsonian National Zoo (pictures coming soon!!). Unfortunately the baby panda was inside, and the mother panda kept on eating bamboo! Hardly got to see her upclose.
Attended a few lectures. One about Iran-US relations was pretty interesting. It was jam-packed! It was the highlight of the day (monday). Of course it focused a lot on nuclear weapons, blah blah. All I gotta say is that if American and Israel can have weapons, there is no reason Iran should not be allowed to have weapons!
I actually spent a lot of time in the hotel room watching "Friends." There seemed to have been a marathon on tv. I know I'm so bad. I should've been attending more lectures
I had the misfortune of meeting one of the most racist and bigoted women I have ever met. All I know is she seems to think she is some hot shot, has appeared on Fox news, and her last name is Meyerson. I had to listen to her babble on for 45 minutes about how wonderful Israel is and how Arabs are backwards and terrorists. What an idiot. I could say more about her, but I dare not waste my precious time talking about such an ignoramus!
I miss Washington DC! The hotel was awesome, and loved seeing so many people who are interested in Middle Eastern studies, and I miss hanging out with Hadi and Hussein! Well, maybe someday again in the future
ZOO PICTURES COMING SOON! STAY TUNED. November 09 Cat CrossingSo November 7th was Kitty's 17th Birthday. Kitty has been missing for 9 years now.
So it was Kitty's birthday and I was driving to campus early morning as always. On my street, a cat started crossing the road. Of course I stopped for him. He stopped in the middle of the road to look at me after I stopped, as though asking for permission to continue lol, so I waved at him telling him to continue, and then he did. Once he reached the other side, he once again looked at me, as if to say thank you. He was so cute!
Don't you wish all roads and highways had animal crossings. I wish animals knew better than to run out in front of cars. It would've been great if Allah would've given them enough intelligence to hit a button and cross the road when the sign says "walk." If only, then we wouldn't see so many poor animals who have died while crossing...
So in less than 2 weeks I will be in Washington DC for the MESA Convention. Is anyone else going? I can't wait. The hotel is amazing, sooo gorgeous! I hope I learn something while at the convention. I fear I will end up wasting my time checking out all the ballrooms, restaurants, tea rooms and whatnot in the hotel instead of doing much else! lol... And of course it's DC!! So of course I am gonna check out the city, and maybe have a word or two with Bush!
LOVE YOU KITTY.
19 days and counting until I turn 23... Half of 46!!! October 17 GRE NightmareSo today was the day of my big exam. Of course I wake up early, eat breakfast (which made me feel like I was going to vomit) and get ready and relax a bit before I have to leave! So I decide to leave at 8:30 which will allow me to reach their 15 minutes early, so it'll give me time to calm my nerves before the exam.
So I pull up to the building where the exam was held last year [I took it last year but didn't have my scores reported]. I go inside and wait, but I look around and see that there isn't anyone else there! Not even a proctor! So I start asking the people in the other offices in the building where the testing center is, and no one knows! So now I am all frantic and whatnot. So I leave the building on the verge of tears... I get in my car, make a few turns here and there (while driving like a complete maniac) and go to Kinkos to look in the phone book. I was very impatient so I cut in front of people to ask for a phone book, I told them its an emergency! So I look up the number and call, and the number is disconnected! So I try again, same thing.
So I run out of kinkos, now a complete mess, have no idea what to do! So I go back to the same building. As I'm standing there crying like a fool because I'm afraid I've messed everything up, all this time spent for preparation and I can't even find the damn place... This woman comes to me and asks if everything is ok. She must've been an angel, cause out of all the people, she knew where the testing center moved to! A few buildings over. So I get back in my car and drive like a complete maniac again and make it to the testing center. Phew! Of course I am late, but they said they allow half an hour for people to arrive anyway. Wish I'd know that earlier! I wouldn't have been so worried then!
Anyway, the exam went well. Did better on math than in verbal, damnit
Well, my French midterm is this week, and my history mid term next week, but after that I shall relax a bit in Manhattan
Speaking of museums, I've decided I'd like to be a museum curator, InshAllah! I think it's a cool job. Of course my speciality would be Middle Eastern history and art. So InshAllah (God Willing) I will get a master's in ME studies and then a master's in Museum Studies! It's very competative, though, so I don't know if I'd ever be so lucky to work at the Metropolitan or the British Museum, but its worth a try! Its a fun job with a good salary too! And it would be something I'd enjoy a lot too, so InshAllah September 30 Pinnacle of Brilliance... Or maybe not...I wonder when gas prices will start to decrease? Let me share a story with you all.
So, my GRE exam is right around the corner. I am freaking out about that, so keep me in your prayers everyone!! Applying to graduate schools is just so stressful!
If anyone is interested, I will InshAllah be attending the MESA Annual Meeting being held in Washington DC this year, from November 19-22. Anyone going? Would love to see some familiar faces there! :) http://fp.arizona.edu/mesassoc/MESA05/mesa05.htm
People say all I do is talk about animals in my blog. I do apologize for that, however, I love animals and always have a lot of animal stories :) So a few weeks ago I was leaving campus, and I saw all these geese on the soccer field of my campus. I haven't seen them since. Maybe they migrated down south, I don't know... I had a more important animal story that isn't coming to mind right now... Hmm, as soon as I remember I will be back here to tell you all.
Hmm, ok, I had a lot on my mind, but now I can't remember what I wanted to write about September 23 Birds of a Feather Flock Together.. But this is really about horses. So, today as I was driving from campus to Barnes & Noble, I saw all these birds flying together. They all turn at the same time, in the same direction; very nice, beautiful sight! I just love seeing them fly together... Nature is just so beautiful
So at Barnes & Noble I bought the Washington Report. It has a bunch of articles about the Middle East, so I thought I'd check them out. I'll report back to ya'll what I think about the articles, hehe
So outside of Barnes&Noble there was a truck parked with the horse carrier in the back. There were 2 horses inside. So I really love horses and love petting them and reading verses out of the Qur'an to them
This makes me think. I love horses, they are beautiful creatures and deserve to be treated with respect, as ALL animals do. If you have a horse, don't abuse it or treat it horribly! I don't like horse racers. What if the horse doesn't want to race? I don't know.
Ok, That's all I have to say for today I suppose! Toodlez for now. September 21 Oh, deer! So, today was a very exhausting day. Of course I had to go to class in the morning. So I'm speeding down the parkway, and this police car pulls onto the parkway as I'm speeding past him, so I quickly made a right turn onto a rode hoping to escape his view, and I did, because traffic was heavy, thank Goodness! Cause I was doing 60mph in a 45mph zone!
So class is boring as usual. Then its time to go to work. So I head out the backway of campus, near the Nature Preserve, and I see a deer on the side of the road, and luckily he's alive too!
So work was blah as usual. I was supposed to work only 5 hours, and today was my last day!! But they needed me to stay longer, so I ended up working 8 hours in total. I am so exhausted.
Now, on to more important things. The second of LOST season begins tonight!!! |
